Dr. Sourav Chowdhury

I am passionate about math & science teaching and I have been coaching & mentoring students of all ages for more than a decade. I have started Jupiter Center to teach school- and competition-level mathematics & physics, to inculcate the curiosity of how nature and numbers work. In my profession, I am a senior R&D engineer with focus on Electric Vehicle technologies and patentable processes. I have a B. Tech from IIT Kharagpur (India), MS & PhD from U. of MD, College Park, and an MBA from SUNY, Buffalo. I am also a MENSA America Member. My coaching and methods of disciplined learning have enabled students to enter IIT (India) and magnet schools in the US , score high in SATs and join programs for the gifted, such as UB GMP. Currently, together with my regular math, physics and SAT coaching, I am also preparing students for Math Olympiad, MathCounts, AMC 8/10 and UB’s Gifted Math Program entrance test. I am also a pro bono math coach at Univ. at Buffalo and at our local temple HCS-WNY and serve on the board of a WNY math club.

Being a psychology professional & a counselor-educator, I have realized the importance of effective coaching methods to teach rigor and discipline for the youth. Even with small changes in habits and learning technique, a significant outcome may be achieved by students who are struggling with their academic and non-curricular objectives. I advise students at the Jupiter Center, teach a psychology course and offer pro bono support in administering several of the programs. I specialize in teaching methods for achieving discipline, avoiding procrastination and cultivating habits for success in student life. As a school valedictorian, who graduated with summa cum laude in colleges, I have been invited to teach undergraduate classes and serve on my alma mater’s board. I am also an editor for an International Journal. While busy raising twins and our dog, I find time to perform Indian classical dance and teach choreography in my community. My life experiences attest to the fact that discipline and sincerity will pave the path of success. I want to share this realization with my students.
